My Dentist
Level 1
The music and words work very well together for ‘My Dentist.’
The hands are in C 5-finger position, taking the student on
a tour through 2nds, 3rds, and 4ths.
There is an optional C chord for LH at the end. The student will even learn how to brush their teeth as they read the lyrics. Scroll down to hear recordings.
Scary Skeleton
Level 1
This fun Halloween piece is written in a d minor 5-finger pattern, featuring LH i chords and 2-finger V7 chords. The cute words and RH ‘sighs’ will make a great piece for any goblin to learn and perform. Scroll down to hear recordings.
Rainbows
Level 2B
The RH begins with a flowing ostinato rhythm pattern, changing from major to minor and back, while the LH travels between treble and bass clefs. It’s a great piece to teach RH how to practice broken chords by playing all the notes together for a section, then as written. Scroll down to hear recordings.

The Pirates of Dragon's Mouth Cove
Level 3A
This piece is a sure delight for any student - and who doesn’t love pirates and dragons? The piece features 8va LH jumps, interesting RH crossovers, and includes a storyline to follow the pirates’ journey through the rough water and down to the depths of the bass clef to find treasure, all the while practicing the reading of ledger lines. Rio Rhythm
Level 3A
As the title suggests, this piece will take the player south to
Rio de Janeiro, Brazil to learn some great syncopated rhythms.
LH accompanies the melody with broken chords.
Later, the RH crosses over into bass clef to repeat the melody while LH keeps the beat with solid I and V7 chords.
The piece ends with a fun ‘cha-cha-cha.’ The student will learn a bit about life in Brazil while reading the entertaining words. Scroll down to hear recording.
Planetary Delight
Level 3B
‘Planetary Delight’ is a tour around the planets, with space for the student to write in the name of each planet on the back cover. Musically, it opens with whole tone 5-finger scales,
and features connected pedaling and clusters of notes

Soaring Above
Level 5
This ‘easy but sounds very complicated’ piece will help the player prepare to play late Romantic works. The hands have to work closely together in this piece to create a very even flow of eighth notes.
This would make a stunning recital piece for any player.

OH-OH-OH-ANGEL
Early Intermediate
This piece will take the student back to the 1950s with its repetitive chords and low bass line. Set in 12/8 time, this rocking piece will help the student learn how to keep a loose wrist for the repeated chords. There are some nice dynamic contrasts using crescendos and diminuendos for interest ending with a big finish.

I Can, You Can, Toucan
Level 1
I Can, You Can, Toucan is a solo piece for a Level 1 student that teaches intervals (2nds, 3rds, 4ths, 5ths), 8vas and staccato/legato. It makes for a great recital solo, with the Toucan Dance (Two Can Dance) as a splash at the end!

Riding Through the Park on Sunday
Level 1
This Level 1 piece begins in Middle C, moves to C 5-finger, and back to Middle C before the ride is over. LH gets to lead with the melody for the B section, and the player learns to keep a flowing, steady rhythm to feel the motion of the bike. Legato and staccato are also featured in this fun to play piece.

TWO Pieces for Level One Players
Two delightful pieces for Level 1 students that will keep them cool in summer or occupied during a snowstorm. Perfect as twin pieces for a recital. Both are in Middle C or similar position, teaching 2nds, 3rds, 4ths, 5ths.

(An Afternoon at Sea)
Level 3
A lovely, flowing piece where the left hand has the melody. It features cross-hand work, half pedaling and changing dynamics to portray a beautiful afternoon - picture yourself enjoying a boating excursion as you play the piece. There are a few menacing clouds, but it turns out to be a gorgeous day for a boat ride!

My Mississippi
Level 2
Not only is My Mississippi fun for a Level 2 student to play, s/he will learn a bit about America's River, and see pictures, too. There are cute words that help the student learn to spell our great river, and learn some facts about it, all the while learning to do broken chords in the LH and hopping octaves in the RH. Would make an excellent choice for a recital.

This lovely carol for a late intermediate pianist depicts the falling snow in cascading eighths throughout the piece. It’s a beautiful melody, telling of the birth of Jesus, and would make a lovely solo for a holiday recital or Christmas Eve service.

Follow the Star
Late Intermediate
Follow the Star could be considered a Christmas piece, or could be used any time of year, as it is not based on a Christmas carol. This beautiful piece features constant motion in both hands throughout the piece, which is in 12/8 time. Both hands play in the treble register to help the player envision a starry night, with a bright North Star, or the star that the wisemen followed to find Jesus. It ends with a brightly arpeggiated high register chord that gives a shimmer of delight to the player, as well as to the audience.
